Adopt an Orangutan - Gift Details

Provide an Orangutan with the loving care they depend upon by adopting one today!

Do you know someone who loves animals? This is something that’ll show them you care, and will also enable them to give something back to the world... Let them adopt an orang-utan! Orangutans are extremely at risk of extinction, mainly because of the loss of their habitat.

Adopting an Orangutan is an ideal way to help save these amazing animals from extinction in the wild. You’ll help the charity "Care for the wild International" continue their great work and various projects protecting these special animals that have been injured, orphaned or require continually long term care.

Severely malnourished with a distended “pot belly” stomach, dry skin and very sparse hair, Wenda (pictured above), was a tiny one-year-old Orangutan baby when she was confiscated along with her friend Denis from a cage in someone’s garage!

When Wenda arrived at the rescue centre, the trauma of the rescue seemed to cause her condition to deteriorate and she became more and more weak. So it was decided she should be separated from Denis to make sure she could be nursed intensively in the clinic.

As difficult as it was to separate the two friends, Wenda eventually moved while Denis was sedated for his medical checks, to prevent him from attacking and biting staff for stealing his best friend! Initially, Wenda wouldn’t drink milk, but after spending with two weeks with another rescued Oranutan in the clinic called Chaka, she began to try small amounts and her condition gradually got better. Wenda adored Chaka and looked up to her as if she were a big sister, even holding her when she was sleeping!

Since she first arrived at the centre, Wenda has remained a fairly shy little Orangutan and is fearful of people. She’s afraid to be picked up, even by the keeper, but she does crave the affection of her friend Chaka. Chaka is Wenda’s protection and comfort, and she tends to follow her wherever she goes. Unsurprisingly, Chaka gets a little frustrated and if she gets irritated with Wenda, she’ll give her a nip on the finger in an attempt to get her off!
