Middlesbrough Personalised Football Diary
Unique Diary Gifts for Boro Fans!
Middlesbrough FC was formed in 1876 by members of the local cricket team. Although a section of the club broke away in 1889 to seek professional football, Boro continued to build through the amateur ranks, winning league titles and cups before turning professional themselves in 1899. Success would continue for Middlesbrough in the pro-divisions and the club have since enjoyed top flight football and FA Cup success, in addition to winning the League Cup in 2004. Keeping the tradition of doing things the right way, Boro have also developed the largest community-based football scheme in the UK and boast a record eighty-percent of locally based fans.
Our Personalised Middlesbrough FC Diaries feature twelve terrific match reports on some of the best games from the past fifty years. Written by respected journalists who were there at the time, these A5 organisers can start from the month of your choice, making them a great gift for Boro fans at any time of year.
Diary Highlights
These Personalised Middlesbrough FC Diaries begin with the 1-0 victory against Manchester City in the first leg of the 1976 League Cup semi-final. The A5 Diary then moves on to the 2-0 win against Chelsea in the Second Division play-off finals in 1988, which ensured the club a second consecutive league promotion. Boro beat the Blues by the same scoreline in 1995, which was the club’s first game at the Riverside Stadium.
Middlesbrough FC was transformed in 2001 with the arrival of Steve McClaren as manager. He brought stability to the club and invested money wisely. The 5-1 mauling of Tottenham in 2003 hinted towards Boro’s imminent success, as Middlesbrough were on the brink of a breakthrough. This Spurs match features in our fascinating Diary Gift, as do some of the most important games from the following two seasons.
2004 will forever stand out in the club’s history, as Boro finally won their first major trophy - the Carling Cup. In the second leg of the semi-final, Middlesbrough beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Riverside, winning the tie overall with a 3-1 aggregate. The club faced Bolton in the final and a 2-1 victory clinched silverware for the team. Another reward was inclusion in Europe for the next season. Middlesbrough beat Banik Ostrava 3-0 in the club’s first European home fixture. Although McClaren’s men would not get much further, a more successful campaign took place in 2005/2006. Middlesbrough reached the final of the UEFA Cup, just missing out on the trophy to Seville. Our popular Football Diaries feature the two exciting four goal comebacks in Boro’s quarter and semi-final fixtures, which were played against FC Basle and Steaua Bucharest respectively.
