Everton FC Personalised Football Diary
Terrific Diary Gift For Fans Of The Toffees!
Everton FC, formed in 1878, was originally named after the local church school - St. Domingo. Players used to carry make-shift goal posts onto Stanley Park and when people began to join the team from other parishes, the club became known as Everton. Crowds had begun to flock to watch the side play football and it was soon realised that the team needed a new enclosed ground. After playing for a period at Anfield - the future home to Merseyside rivals Liverpool FC - a dispute over rent meant that the Toffees were once more on the move. The club settled upon plans for Goodison Park and the stadium was built especially for Everton FC. In the process, Goodison Park became the first ever purpose built stadium in English football.
The Toffees have played some incredible matches over the past century and we have selected twelve of the very best to feature in our unique Personalised Everton Diaries. Including reproduced match reports from our vast newspaper archives, these A5 Diaries provide fantastic memories of days gone by and are an ideal gift for any fan of the club.
Diary Highlights
The Personalised Everton FC Diaries go all the way back to 1963, when the Toffees beat Fulham 4-1 to become First Division Champions by a margin of six points. The club won the title again in 1970, beating West Bromwich 2-0, and by the 1980s Everton had become a dominant force in the game.
1985 was an especially successful year, as yet another league title accompanied an FA Cup final. The A5 Diary focuses upon the last two rounds of Everton’s incredible European Cup Winners’ Cup win, drawing 0-0 away to Bayern Munich in the first leg of the semi-final, before going on to eventually beat Austrian side Rapid Vienna 3-1 in the final. We also feature an article on the arrival of Gary Lineker, who would enthral fans of the Toffees with thirty goals in just forty-one appearances.
Moving into the 1990s, our Everton Diary Gift covers the return of Howard Kendall as manager, the home derby win of 1994 and the victorious FA Cup Final against Manchester United in 1995. Wins against Arsenal and Aston Villa in 2002 and 2006 respectively are also featured in the Everton Diary, accompanied by stories on the beginning of David Moyes’ Everton career and the end of Duncan Ferguson’s time at the club.
