Charlton Athletic Personalised Football Diary
Unique Diary Gift For Fans Of The Addicks!
Charlton Athletic has come a long way since it was formed in 1905 by a group of teenagers who used to play together in South-East London. Several periods in the top flight and two successive FA Cup finals, the latter resulting in a Charlton FC victory, have been highlights of a club that has been blighted by financial problems and controversy surrounding its beloved Valley Stadium. These battles have brought Charlton fans together over the years however, and at one stage, the Addicks were the only English football club to have a fan representative on the directors’ board.
GoneDigging have collected together a fascinating range of original match reports from our newspaper archives. We have reproduced them in a Personalised Charlton Athletic Diary that is a useful yet interesting gift, which a Charlton fan can enjoy all year long.
Diary Highlights
These Personalised Charlton Athletic Diaries incorporate many significant matches, such as the promotion-clinching games of 1936, 1975 and 1981.
Another highlight of the A5 Diary is the 1-0 victory against Portsmouth in 1992, which saw Charlton FC return to the Valley Stadium for the first time in seven years. Colin Walsh scored the winning goal for the Addicks after just seven minutes and the emotional performance provoked tears amongst the Charlton Athletic fans, who had campaigned so strongly to get the club’s rightful home re-opened.
Earlier matches covered in this Diary Gift include the 6-3 FA Cup win against Brentford in 1946, the record-breaking 6-6 league draw against Middlesbrough in 1960 and a 2-0 Addicks’ victory against Manchester United that helped to put a spark back into the difficult season of 1989/1990.
The 1998/1999 season started a lot more cheerfully for Charlton Athletic. The club was back in the top flight after forty-one years and in their second Premiership game, a Clive Mendonca hat-trick helped the Addicks to beat Southampton 5-0. This was seen as even more important, because it showed the country that the club belonged in the highest league.
