Nottingham Forest Personalised Football Calendar
Great Gift Idea For Nottingham Forest Fans!
Nottingham Forest FC formed in 1865, when a local 'Shinney' side decided to form a football club. The switch of sport was confirmed in a meeting that took place in Clinton Arms, where the team also purchased twelve red caps. This would be the basis of Forest's famous red strip. The club has gone on to win several major honours, including back-to-back European Cups, a top flight title, and both League and FA Cups. Nottingham Forest's main rivals are Derby County and Leicester City, despite being based just 245 yards away from fellow Nottingham club, Notts County. Although local sides are often fierce foes, the Nottingham teams have rarely played in the same division and so a tense atmosphere has seldom had the opportunity of growing between them.
Our Personalised Nottingham Forest Calendars feature twelve match reports from our newspaper archives, covering a selection of fantastic Forest performances, such as the incredible European Cup win of 1979. Starting for the month of your choice, these A3 Calendars are a terrific gift idea for any fan of the club.
Calendar Highlights
One of the main highlights of these Personalised Nottingham Forest Calendars is the selection of match reports from the European campaign of 1978/1979. The run was masterminded by legendary manager Brian Clough and it concluded with the club lifting the famous trophy in Munich.
We start in the first round, when Forest were drawn against Liverpool FC. The two teams had begun to forge a rivalry at the time, as Forest had beaten the Reds in the League Cup final of the previous season - a match also featured in our A3 Calendar - and Clough's team had also won the previous league title. Liverpool were still made overwhelming favourites however, as people believed they were the much more experienced team. Nottingham Forest won 2-0 in the first leg, but it was the return to fortress Anfield that perhaps proved the club's mettle. A solid defensive performance led to a 0-0 draw and Forest moved on to face AEK Athens.
The two clubs had faced each other in a pre-season draw and so Nottingham Forest felt quietly confident. Frank Clark created both goals in a 2-1 win away, which set up a comfortable victory at home.
The Calendar Gift moves to the quarter-finals, where Forest were drawn to play Grasshoppers Zurich. The opposition went ahead in both legs thanks to their star striker, Sulser. However, a 4-1 win at home gave Nottingham Forest a comfortable position in the second game, and a 1-1 draw saw the club into the semi-finals. Forest beat Cologne away, following a tense 3-3 draw at home, and the win was even more satisfying due to the actions of their opposition. Cologne had been so confident of victory, they had booked hotels for the final and even printed tickets, but it was Forest who would travel to Munich. Clough's men beat Malmo 1-0 to raise the trophy. In doing so, they became one of the smallest teams to win the competition.
